Violet was raised in Tāhuna by a musical family, but much of her musical shaping came from living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and playing alongside notable jazz musicians (Hikurangi, Phoebe, George). Her music is meditative, reminiscent of home, and searching for connection. Hirst hopes to incorporate all of the elements within her performance. Violet will be joined by a special big band to help perform the music from her upcoming debut album. Themes of collage, textures, wind and summer carry through the music.
